An illustration for a silk scarf collection commissioned by FOLKSIGHT, a designer scarf brand. Their main focus is on fashion and lifestyle products that have storytelling elements coming from Vietnamese heritage.
Brocade weaving is one of the traditional crafts of the Muong ethnic group in northern Vietnam. It is used to meets the multi-faceted needs of the people's lives such as clothes, towels, curtains, skirts, mattresses, blankets, pillows, bags, .etc.
The illustration shows the process of turning cotton into brocade, from rolling, bowing, spinning, and weaving, which are mostly done by Muong women from a very young age.

The Muong also worship animals to pay respect to the forest. In return, they hope to be protected from dangers in the wild. In this piece of artwork, we can see the idea of wild hares helping the ladies harvest cotton. This represents the strong connection between the Muong and nature.
